Fabric Trends to Watch When Sourcing for Your Next Collection

Fabric direction can have a major impact on how a collection looks, feels, and ultimately performs in the market. This season, we’re seeing several fabric requests come up repeatedly from brands looking for materials that feel elevated, distinctive, and built for real-world wear.

Here are three fabric directions worth keeping an eye on when sourcing for your next collection.

  1. Tactile, Textured Weaves

Texture is becoming an increasingly important part of fabric selection. Think boucle, jacquard, and other woven constructions with visible dimension and depth.

These fabrics bring something to a collection that can often be seen before the garment is even in hand. Buyers are looking for materials that photograph well and communicate a story through texture, making them especially valuable for brands selling and marketing primarily online.

The right texture can add visual interest without relying heavily on prints, graphics, or logos.

  1. Heavier-Weight, Soft-Hand Basics

Another strong direction is heavier-weight basics with an exceptionally soft hand. These fabrics are often finished through processes such as garment dyeing, creating a more lived-in, premium feel.

This reflects a broader shift toward understated luxury. Rather than relying on prominent logos or branding, brands are putting more emphasis on the quality and feel of the garment itself.

A substantial fabric with a soft hand can make even a simple silhouette feel more elevated, giving consumers a product that feels premium without being overly complicated.

  1. Heritage Fabrics With a Modern Update

Heritage-inspired fabrications are also making their way back into collections, but with a contemporary approach. Think familiar 1990s-inspired constructions reimagined with premium or performance fibers.

The goal isn’t simply to recreate an old fabrication. Modern fiber technology can add improved durability, comfort, drape, and performance while maintaining the character of a traditional fabric.

This combination of familiar construction and updated performance can give brands a fabric that feels nostalgic while still meeting the expectations of today’s consumer.

Trending Doesn’t Always Mean Available

While these fabric directions may be gaining attention, sourcing decisions still have to account for the realities of production.

Mill capacity, minimum order quantities, lead times, fiber availability, and production schedules can all affect whether a particular fabric is actually viable for a collection. A fabric can be trending and still be difficult to source at the quantity, price, or timeline a brand needs.

That’s why having access to a strong fabric library and experienced sourcing support can make such a difference during development.
